Jamestown was founded May 14,1606 by an English company. Jamestown was the first permanent English settlement what is now called the United States. The reason Jamestown was founded because the tide and deep water made it easy for bigger ships to come ashore.They went there because Spain originally was looking for gold in that area. John Smith was one of the famous founders of Jamestown because he was the captain of one of the ships, and he was a famous soldier back in Spain when he was 16 years old.
